Recent Chapter Projects...
Hollywood Chapter is front and center when it comes to being involved in local and national projects. Here are some of the projects we have completed just in the last year! Hollywood Chapter DAR says THANK YOU to all of our veterans!
In February 2008, the Chapter donated this "Liberty Cart" to the Sepulveda VA Center. This special cart was modified to remove the center row of seats and add a wheelchair ramp. Now our veterans have another mode of transportation to get around the huge Sepulveda VA campus.
In December 2007, members stuffed 600 pairs of socks with candy and goodies. The stuffed socks were gifts for the veterans at the West Los Angeles VA Hospital, and they were delighted to receive them. The Chapter delivered men's socks and ladies' socks and even prepared some diabetic packages. This has been an annual project for the Chapter since 1999, and always proves to be a festive and heartwarming event.
Countless care packages have been shipped to our adopted soldiers overseas, and the Chapter has received some very meaningful and heartfelt thank you letters and gifts in return.
...Chapter Memorials...
An official DAR Insignia gravemarking and dedication were held in June 2006 to pay tribute to our beloved member, Ginger Rogers. The gravemarking was attended by Hollywood Chapter members and many State and National Society DAR officers. Ms. Rogers's longtime assistant addressed the audience and told many stories about Ginger. The Chapter was very proud to receive a letter from Nancy Reagan commending the Chapter for the memorial, as well as sharing her personal memories of Ginger Rogers. The letter was read aloud by the Chapter Regent during the ceremony.
...and Ongoing Chapter Projects
Every November, the Hollywood Chapter members and prospective members participate in a Charity Sweepstakes! In this exciting and meaningful annual project, the Chapter has donated money to charities chosen by members. The charities range from neighborhood to national, any cause or project that the winning member chooses.
The Hollywood Chapter awards thousands of dollars in scholarships each year to deserving students of all ages. In addition, we honor local students with ROTC awards and Good Citizen awards. The Chapter also gives generously to DAR Schools, and the DAR Library in Washington, D.C.
The Chapter also supports other local organizations. We are assisting the Friends of Campo de Cahuenga in their efforts to save the mission, provide an extensive library collection regarding this historic site, and preserve the integrity and history surrounding the momentous events that occurred at the site where "East meets West."
Hollywood Chapter supports and assists the LA Fire Department Historical Society in their preservation efforts as well.
